Earlier this year we met and filmed an interview with Es Devlin on behalf of MediaStorm. The recipient of this year’s WSJ. Magazine 2016 Innovators Award in the field of Design, she is largely considered the most pre-eminent stage designer in the world.
Having worked with some of the greatest artists of our time, including Adele, Beyoncé and Kanye West, Devlin uses design to create “gestures” on stage that evoke the spirit of her clients.
A truly deep commitment to her craft, you can easily see why Devlin deserved the 2016 Innovators Award. She gave us an inspirational insight into her thoughts and processes and we were really fascinated by how her designs transpire through the different pieces that she creates.
Her sense of responsibility to her audience with what she is creating is something that really resonated with us here at JKP and it was a real pleasure to be able to meet and film her interview earlier this year.
Highlighting both her impact in design and the brilliance of creating what are essentially memories check out her interview below:
Es Devlin has spent 20 years investigating some of the most important stagecraft of the last two decades. From Wagner to Beyonce, Devlin has created stage design that expands upon the core ideas of each performance regardless of genre.

It’s not everyday you get to meet a real life astronaut, but this week we had the great honour of meeting both Tim Peake and Tim Kopra as they rounded up their Principia UK post-flight tour. On Wednesday 19th October they flew straight in from Belfast (the previous days’ location for the tour) to the Science Museum in London to wow over 400 school children in a Live Q&A session about their time on the International Space Station (ISS). We are really happy to showcase our latest work for Trehearne and Brar in the release of their all new High Summer brochure for June 2016.
Featuring one of their incredible all embroidered shawls on the front, the all new reversible Jazz Shawls of ‘abstract colour chords in a four part tune’ inside and the signature stack with a mixture of embroidered bordered shawls and all embroidered shawls to finish, we think this is one of our best collections yet!
Having photographed 12 collections over the past 6 years, we’re constantly pushing ourselves to improve the process and styling on each collection. Better get our thinking caps on for Autumn Winter 2016!
Last month we were photographing Trehearne and Brar’s new June 2016 mini brochure in the JKP studios! Due to be released and sent out to all their clients this week, above is a little look behind the scenes as the shawls were modelled and brought to life by Sophie Trehearne.
